Henry Wansbrough is a monk of Ampleforth Abbey in Yorkshire. He is a Scripture scholar who has been involved in teaching, lecturing and writing for many years. He is the editor of the New Jerusalem Bible. Dom Henry is internationally celebrated and is a former member of the Pontifical Biblical Commission.
In his study day, entitled Exploring the Acts of the Apostles, and given at Brentwood on 10th March 2012, Dom Henry provides a panorama of this fascinating but little appreciated book of the New Testament. It provides considerable information about the development of the early church as it brings the gospel message beyond Jerusalem and Samaria to the ends of the earth. Among other interesting questions Dom Henry considers the nature of the extensive speeches in Acts, the roles of Stephen, Peter and Paul, the use of Scripture in Acts, and the presentation of the Christian faith as attractive to the Roman empire. If you are looking for a way in to this intriguing Christian book, Dom Henry’s lectures would be a good start.
