Dr Adrian Graffy is a Scripture scholar and a member of the Pontifical Biblical Commission. In August 2022 he presented a paper to the 33rd International Biblical Conference in Szeged, Hungary, entitled ‘Milestones in Catholic Biblical Teaching’. He traced the history of biblical teaching in the Catholic Church from the 1893 encyclical letter Providentissimus Deus of Pope Leo XIII to the letter of Pope Pius XII Divino Afflante Spiritu fifty years later, and to the 1965 Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation of the Second Vatican Council Dei Verbum. In this short presentation Fr Adrian traced how thinking developed on the issues of inspiration, interpretation and inerrancy.
